If a fence is tired and needs replacing it is much more economical to replace just the fence panels if the fence posts are still solid and upright. Similar to installing a new fence the first step for installing new fence panels is a survey of the area. A like for like replacement of similar sized fence panels isn't as disruptive as a completely new fence but there can be unforseen problems so a site visit is always recommended.
Existing fences frequently get used as supports for growing plants along or hanging lighting on and all this needs to be removed from both sides to get any old panels out efficiently. Any growth from plants in a border that may have attached itself to the fence or broken through it will need to be cut back too. We then would aim to remove all the old panels and any gravel boards as well. If we are installing new fence panels using concrete posts there needs to be a clearance of the height of the panel above the fence to allow the panels to be lifted and slid in to the posts. This frequently involves cutting back any branches that may have grown during the life of the fence or removing the gutter from an extension/conservatory where the first panel meets the property.
If necessary the next stage is to make an assessment and see if the existing fence posts are still solid and secure and upright. Concrete posts tend to degrade and crumble along the sides as they get older and wooden posts rot through at ground level where the moisture level is highest. If any of the posts aren't up to standard we can replace them at this point if necessary or simply try to realign one if the integrity of the fence post is still good and just the foundations of it failed.
With the posts aligned properly the installation of new panels is usually a simple process amd happens quite quickly. We begin by clearing space for the gravel board and fitting that if necessary and then fitting the panels. If there are panels of custom sizes that need to be installed we will cut these onsite during installation for efficiency.
Once installed we can then reattach any plants that might have been supported by the fence and any lighting or other items that might have been on it. As with a new fencing installation we can also carry out other small landscpaing works along the line of the new fence such as returfing areas, decking repairs, repointing paths to give the whole area an improved look.
